Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Since an annoying bug has been fixed in these releases, updating to them is recommended.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.72 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.14 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

New in these releases:
  • Fixed a bug in parcel bans list updates that was introduced with the experience tools support, and caused the bans list to be emptied when an attempt was made to add or remove a resident from it. See this thread for details.
  • Fixed NaNs in the packets transfer report log message, that used to show when exiting the viewer without having logged in.
  • Do not systematically overwrite the log when launching multiple viewer instances. Each instance now got its own log (CoolVLViewer_NNNN.log, NNNN being the process id), that gets renamed only when necessary into either "CoolVLViewer.log" (for the first instance) or "CoolVLViewer.old" (for any subsequent instance) on exit.
  • Made it so that the textures force-reload feature (CTRL SHIFT U) also works for Linden trees.
  • Backported optimizations to the rendering pipeline from Singularity.
  • Backported from Firestorm a fix to ftp:// URLs failing to be opened in a browser.
  • Do not systematically check for the master message template when building the viewer (allows to build the viewer while off-line or when the website hosting the master template is unreachable). To re-enable, you now need to pass "-DCHECK_MSG_TEMPLATE:BOOL=TRUE" to develop.py
  • Some code cleanup and removal of deprecated code.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Updating to them is recommended.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.74 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.16 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

New in these releases:
  • Fixed a bug (introduced with v1.26.8.72/1.26.12.14) that caused the viewer to fail to erase old execute file markers from crashed sessions, causing it to erroneously report frozen sessions forever after (didn't notice that till I got a crash while experimenting with new code...).
  • Backported a fix to the Experience Tools from LL's viewer-xp_tools branch.
  • Code cleanup in preparation for the backport of optimized SSE2 maths (speed optimizations) from Singularity (I was hoping to have a final backport done for this week's releases, but there are still a couple of glitches that must get resolved first).
  • Removal of old pre-built packages dependencies and speed optimizations (inlined glh maths).
  • Removal of deprecated menu definitions.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

They are mainly bugfix releases; updating to them is recommended.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.76 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):

New in this release:
  • Worked around a bug (SL-incompatible sim server name resolution UDP message) in relatively recent OpenSim server versions that caused failures to TP via SLURLs (or via the teleport history, which indirectly uses SLURLs).
  • Backported bug fixes from Marine's RLV git repository. See the release notes section in the RestrainedLoveReadme.txt file for details.
  • Made animated trees parameters configurable via debug settings (RenderTreeAnimationDamping, RenderTreeTrunkStiffness, RenderTreeWindSensitivity) and changed their default value for a more realistic effect.
  • Implemented an experimental feature (toggled via the new OverflowTextureFetchesToUDP debug setting), to allow overflowing texture fetches over UDP when the HTTP fetch queue is full: this allows for faster textures rezzing when the grid is overloaded (lagging) with HTTP fetch requests, but it also results in some blurry textures (UDP is not exactly a reliable protocol, and instead of having two chances to complete via both HTTP first and UDP last, the overflowed requests only got one chance to complete via UDP), thus why this feature is off by default.
  • Reorganized the Advanced menu regarding UI/XUI features (now to be found inside the "User Interface" sub-menu).
  • Made the "Lag Meter" entry a toggle item in the "View" menu (for coherency with other entries in that menu).
  • Backported a fix to the target omega code from LL's viewer-tiger.
  • Code cleanup, removal of dead code, and minor optimizations.
  • FMOD Ex updated to v4.44.43.
  • Added "Virtual Life" to the list of the default OpenSim grids.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.18 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.76, plus:
  • Backported a fix to materials alpha types management from LL's viewer-tiger.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.77 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.19 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

New in these releases:
  • Improved the file and directory selectors by replacing the "Level up" and "Home" buttons with a single fly-out button (defaulting to "Upper level") that also includes "Root directory", "Last used directory" and (for the file selector only) "Suggested directory" choices. See this message for details. Also fixed the bug that caused a wrong directory to be selected when choosing the "Home directory" under MacOS-X.
  • Made the user's per-context directory choices persistent over sessions for the file and directory selectors. A toggle for this feature has been added to the "Advanced" -> "User Interface" menu ("Persistent file selector paths").
  • Added the "Show Wind Vectors" toggle to the "Advanced" -> "World" menu (strangely, the code for this feature has been here for ages but no menu entry allowed to toggle it...).
  • Added a bunch of GPUs to the list of supported ones (backport from Firestorm).
  • Code cleanup.
  • FMOD Ex updated to v4.44.44.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Since bugs have been fixed, updating to them is recommended.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.78 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.20 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

New in these releases:
  • Fixed a (copy/paste) bug in my backport of llcorehttp that could cause slower textures and mesh downloads.
  • Reworked and improved the Graphics tab of the Preferences floater: in particular, that tab now includes the settings that were previously to be found in the (now removed) "Hardware settings" floater, under the "GPU features" sub-tab.
  • Changed the "Texture compression" feature so that it can be switched on and off without needing a viewer restart and added a setting to it so that only textures larger than a given size (in pixels) are compressed (by default, only textures larger than 262144 (512x512, 256x1024, etc) pixels are compressed, so that the FPS rate stays stabler most of the time. The new setting can be found in the "Preferences" floater, "Graphics" tab, "GPU features" sub-tab.
  • Backported a fix to a mesh model upload bug from LL's viewer-tiger branch.
  • FMOD Ex updated to v4.44.45.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Since a vulnerability has been plugged and crash bugs fixed, all users shall update.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.79 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.21 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

New in these releases:
  • Backported the newest changes to the HTTP texture, mesh and inventory fetches from LL's viewer-drano, which includes way faster inventory background fetches (used for initial inventory loading) and HTTP pipelining for texture and mesh fetches (toggle in Advanced -> Network). Note that pipelining is still to be considered experimental in SL and not supported/ready in OpenSim (I implemented a new setting, defaulting to disabled, in the "Preferences" floater -> "Cool features" tab -> "Miscellaneous" sub-tab to allow pipelining when logged in OpenSim grids). These changes also include a work-around for people experiencing troubles with their ISP's HTTP proxy or with some bogus routers: it's "Advanced" -> "Network" -> "Disable HTTP Range requests".
  • Now using LL's latest llqtwebkit pre-built library, which includes a work around (TLS v1.0 support) for the POODLE vulnerability in SSL v3.
  • Implemented fixes against potential crash bugs caused by bogus volume faces (inspired from Nicky's code in Firestorm).
  • Minor improvements to the Graphics preferences tab.
  • Dropped support for (long) deprecated inventory capabilities.
  • FMOD Ex updated to v4.44.46, which should fix the freezes encountered by some users. See this thread for details.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Since bugs have been fixed, updating to them is recommended.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.80 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):

New in this release:
  • Fixed the bug introduced in last week's releases and that broke the inventory UDP fetches. See this thread for details.
  • Backported from LL's viewer-release a fix to a rare crash bug in PNG image uploads.
  • Backported from LL's viewer-release a fix to objects resizing via the manipulator (the objects sometimes reverted back to their old size).
  • Implemented support for avatar name SLURLs. See this thread for details.
  • Windows builds only: Backported from LL's viewer-release an improved VRAM amount detection and an improved video mode selection for full screen modes.
  • Code cleanup and minor optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.22 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.80, plus:
  • Backported from LL's viewer a couple of fixes to the objects new caching scheme dealing with selected objects and seat-objects animating your avatar.
  • Backported GPU benchmarking from LL's viewer-benchmark; this however only truly works after the renderer has been started (i.e. once logged in), but it still provides a fallback method for when the GPU is not recognized. The new "BenchmarkGPU" debug setting allows to enable this feature (which also gets auto-enabled when the GPU is not recognized via gpu-table.txt).

Enjoy ! :D

Here are two new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.81 (legacy stable branch with the v3.5 renderer (no materials) and the legacy objects caching scheme):

New in this release:
  • Backported from LL's viewer (and improved) support for auto-hiding of excessively render-intensive objects and auto-visual-muting of avatars with excessively render-intensive attachments (new "RenderAutoHideGeometryMemoryLimit", "RenderAutoHideSurfaceAreaLimit", "RenderAutoMuteMemoryLimit" and "RenderAutoMuteSurfaceAreaLimit" debug settings). These features are off by default and I'm not really satisfied with what they achieve when enabled; I might change them or expand them in the future (an auto-derender feature for excessively render-intensive attachments would be much more efficient and useful, for example). Added the corresponding "Attachment bytes" entry to the "Advanced" -> "Rendering" -> "Info Displays" menu.
  • Backported from Firestorm a roll-back from a mesh upload feature that could cause spurious rigging to attachments.
  • Backported a workaround for bogus rigged meshes from Singularity.
  • Backported workarounds for ATI's GLSL compiler bugs from LL's viewer-release.
  • Backported bug fixes from Marine's RLV. See the release notes section in the RestrainedLoveReadme.txt file for details.
  • Backported a fix and a couple of UI changes (vocabulary: "trusted experiences" is now "key experience" and "grid-wide" is now "land-scope") from LL's viewer-xp_tools.
  • Backported the new joint position changes tracking code from LL's viewer-release. These changes were supposed to fix once and for all the issues with avatar skeleton distortions when changing worn rigged meshes that affect joint positions (see the BUG-7433 on the JIRA); alas, I just found out that it still didn't fix the issues encountered when both the shape and a rigged mesh change (when changing from one outfit to another) and I'll add a report on the JIRA for this issue.
  • Code cleanup, removal of dead code, and minor optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.12.23 (current stable branch with the v3.7 renderer and new objects caching scheme):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.81, plus:
  • Backported improvements to glow reflections in advanced lighting mode from LL's viewer-release.

Enjoy ! :D
