One other thing I found weird when trying LL's viewers... Even though I set them to the same graphic settings, to my big surprise LL's viewers gave me a MUCH better framerate than your viewer. It used to be the other way around. Cool VL viewer gives me about 25fps with shadows and SSAO, while LL's viewers give me about 38fps now.
In an "average" place (not render-heavy but not light either), with deferred rendering off, I get 33% higher frame rates with the Cool VL Viewer v1.26.5.5 than with v3.4.1 (62 fps against 45 fps), but with deferred rendering on, v3.4.1 is 17% faster (34 fps against 29fps).
With today's release (v1.26.5.9), the difference between rendering speed in deferred rendering mode narrowed down to less than 5% with LL's viewer v3.4.1-devel (I get only around 1.5fps more with v3.4.1 than with the Cool VL Viewer v1.26.5.9 at 36fps): the slow down was due to the fact that some legacy OpenGL calls were left behind in the code of former v1.26.5 releases (thus forcing the GPU into legacy OpenGL calls compatibility mode). The 5% difference may be due to the slightly different way the UI is rendered in deferred mode and/or to some optimizations that I didn't yet adopt for the Cool VL Viewer (because they also introduce new bugs, such as VWR-29581). This said, in non-deferred mode the Cool VL Viewer is still (and always has been) *way* faster than any v2/3 viewer.

Hmm... With deferred rendering and ambient occlusion I still get the same 27fps I got with 1.26.5.8. SL's 3.4.1 gives me 43fps in the same situation.

I have already tried removing and completely reinstalling 1.26.5.9. Made no difference.

Anything else I should try?

Yes, just make sure you compare comparable things (exact same settings, exact same scene, exact same camera position, focus, field of view, etc...).

As far as I can see all settings are identical. Same scene. Same field of view. Same everything.

I could narrow down the difference to 34fps vs. 41fps for that scene after I deleted settings_coolvlviewer_1265.xml to make sure all debug settings got changed back to their defaults.

The scene that I use for testing has quite a lot of transparencies (windows and lots of plants). Could that be a contributing factor for how big the framerate-difference is? Maybe some difference in texture detail?

Another weird thing that I noticed while experimenting: SL's viewer gets noticeably faster when I change lighting from "Sun/Moon" to "Sun/Moon + Projectors". How can that be? It calculates more shadows and gets faster??? And no, this is not the cause for the framerate-difference that I see. RenderShadowDetail is set to 2 both in 1.26.5.9 and 3.4.1.

Don't get me wrong, 34fps are still very good. It's just my curiosity that can't let go. :) The framerate is still high enough that it's a minor issue.
