Slow login and slow partial rezzing of avatar and sim.

Bonjour!

Just wanted to submit a network bug report, that is related to the rezzing of avatars/objects upon logging into SL via the Cool VL Viewer.

Problem:
- Slow/unresponsive logins and slow world/avatar rezzing upon login.
- Avatar would appear as a cloud, or rezz extremely slowly.
- Even an avatar that is wearing only Skin, Shape, Eyes, and Hair items without any additional attachments would appear as a cloud upon login.
- Clicking "Rebake Textures" does not solve this problem, but would instead freeze the viewer for about one second.
- Using "Replace Outfit" on an avatar folder would also cause the chosen avatar to rezz partially or slowly.
- The sim that I logged into would not rezz or would rezz extremely slowly; however, the neighbouring sims would rezz successfully.
- My Friends list would load partially and my gestures would fail to load properly.

Workarounds:
- After logging into a sim, TPing to another sim would cause the avatar and the sim to rezz properly. Everything would work properly until the next relog, causing the same error to appear again.
- Currently, I am forced to log into a sim that I would not use and wait for the login screen to disappear (the "Downloading clothing..." segment of the login process is unusually longer than usual). Then I would have to click "Rebake Textures" (which causes the viewer to freeze for a while) before TPing to another sim.
- Once I'm at the other sim, the world (including the current sim I'm in) would begin to rezz properly. A few moments after TPing into the other sim, a redundant TP screen would appear again and I would have to first cancel it before I can move or use my Inventory. After cancelling the extra TP screen, I would have to use "Replace Outfit" on my avatar's folder. My avatar would now rezz properly and I would be able to use Cool VL Viewer like normal. The "Rebake Textures" feature would also no longer freeze my viewer whenever I activate it.
However, the error returns after relogging, regardless of the sim that I am logging into.

Notes:
- Clearing the cache and doing a clean reinstall of Cool VL Viewer doesn't solve this problem.
- These errors appeared after upgrading Cool VL Viewer from 1.26.5 (19) to 1.26.5 (20). However, doing a clean reinstall back to 1.26.5 (19) did not fix the error.
- Using the official Second Life Viewer or the Exodus Viewer did not produce the same error; the viewers would successfully rezz my avatar and the sim that I logged into.
- However, the Cool VL Viewer and the Singularity Viewer are afflicted with this error.
- Configuring the MTU to a higher or lower setting did not fix this error.
- Uninstalling/Reinstalling the firewall, the antivirus, and the network adapter did not fix this error.
- The router's settings have never been changed; the settings were exactly the same before this error recently appeared; also, restarting the router did not solve this problem.
- The same error appeared when Cool VL Viewer 1.26.5 (21) was installed on a different computer using a different network.
- Sometimes, returning to the same sim in which I logged in would cause my avatar's movements to freeze; I would have to TP away to another sim and avoid returning to the sim in which I logged in for the entire duration of the current SL session.

Just in my opinion, I think that this bug is related to the login process or to the process that fetches the Shape/Skin/Eyes/Hair after a login is performed. I would theorise that my Inventory has some database-related problems, but I am puzzled by the fact that TPing to another sim would solve this problem for the current SL session; I would then have to "blacklist" the sim that I logged into, since returning to that sim may cause my avatar's movements to freeze.

I would also theorise that my local ISP has configured their network or servers recently which negatively affected the connection between my router and the Second Life servers, but other viewers, like the official Second Life Viewer and the Exodus Viewer, are working properly on the computers in my network.

However, I'm now wondering whether LL reconfigured their networks or servers recently, and the new configurations are negatively affecting the current login process of Cool VL Viewer and Singularity Viewer.

Please let me know if you need me to do any more tests; I'm willing to try various workarounds and tests, though my replies may be late due to RL reasons. I am really curious about this unusual problem.

Merci!

The latest log file contains a walkthrough of the error, the workaround, a successful normal session of SL in Cool VL Viewer, a TP to another sim, and quitting Cool VL Viewer.

This is not a viewer related issue (FYI, the Cool VL Viewer uses the exact same texture baking and rezzing code as viewer 3.4): the best proof is that "downgrading" to a former version didn't change a thing. This also has no bearing whatsoever with the login process and initial outfit fetching (BTW, Singularity uses the same processes as LL's v3 viewers for these, and you say Singularity is also affected... QED).

LL has been having big troubles with their servers, lately (sim servers, but also capabilities/display names/textures HTTP servers), and many textures fail to load at all. Try decreasing the simultaneous number of HTTP fetches to 8 (LL's official viewer default), and if enabled, disable the experimental HTTP core engine (it's still buggy anyway and is not faster than the old engine for now due to the fact the servers don't have the corresponding code enabled) and see how it fares.

Alright then, thanks for the reassurance! I was just anxious that a recent change in my local ISP network's configuration or SL servers' configuration made Cool VL Viewer incompatible with Second Life. However, since you mentioned that the SL servers themselves are having problems at the moment, I can now also stop worrying on whether my computer or my router is causing the problem.

The simultaneous number of HTTP fetches setting has already been set to 8, which is the usual setting I use, and the experimental HTTP core engine has already been disabled since the beginning of this problem.

Though, I'm still perplexed as to why the official Second Life Viewer would rezz everything properly; I suppose it could be because of a fallback mechanism or setting that the viewer would use in case of server problems. However, I still feel that the Cool VL Viewer is far more superior than the Second Life Viewer despite this current problem; the Second Life Viewer stutters ridiculously during the rezzing of objects and avatars!

I'll continue using Cool VL Viewer as usual, with the workaround I mentioned above, and report back in this thread about this problem in a few weeks' time. I'll be keeping an eye on the Debug Console to see whether any new error messages crop up over time.

Merci et bonne journée!

The current issues with the SL servers (that have started a couple of weeks ago, from my own experience) may come and go, and are not reliably reproducible: you can run into them in a session and enjoy a normal session next time. If you use any viewer several sessions in a row, you will run into those issues at one time or another.
