while this isn't anything really serious, i thought i could at least report it, sorry if this is a known problem or anything...

the reflection of the sun on the water surface seems to be glitchy while the deferred rendering is activated.

please see for yourself in the following screenshots:

Image

the clipping of the sun reflection in the third picture changes when you move the camera up and down, so it depends on the viewing angle, it gets less visible the lower the camera is.

i installed the official viewer to counter check: with deferred rendering and shadows ON, the water surface actually still looks exactly the same as with deferred rendering OFF (like on the first picture from cool vl viewer - with the bright glistening of the sunlight on the waves).

sheep out!

Please, provide the required info for bug reports. In particular, your comparison with the "official viewer" means strictly nothing if you don't quote the version numbers (the Cool VL Viewer uses 3 different renderers, only one of them corresponding to the current official viewer's) !

bah sorry, please forgive me but i am just a sheep! i totally forgot that. hmm. you are right of course, different renderer versions:

CoolVLViewer-1.26.8.33-Windows

Second Life 3.6.8 (282367) Oct 14 2013 22:38:57 (Second Life Release)

EDIT: i went ahead and installed the experimental branch: Cool VL Viewer 1.26.9 (33) Oct 13 2013 01:26:04, the water looks exactly like it should with shadows on or off.

let's delete this thread and pretend it never happened? :D

Yes, each renderer (v2.6 for Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4, v3.5 for Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8 and v3.6 for Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9) got its own quirks and fixes... v3.6 (LL's current release viewer's) is not flawless either, by far (I find it's indoors lighting in deferred rendering mode to be particularly ugly and dark/unsaturated when compared to all the older versions) !
