Alas, without a stack trace, it's impossible to know where the crash happened...

It happens, sometimes (thankfully rarely), that the viewer crashes so hard that the stack trace dumping code cannot even run... In these cases, only running the viewer from a debugger (such as gdb) can allow to spot the place where the crash occurs in the code...

Hello again Henri,

well, in the meantime it happened once again. Same situation, same result, no stack trace. Same octree message at the end of the log. Unfortunately it doesn't seem reproducible at will.

Should I manage to find a reasonably good way to do so, I'll be sure to give it a whirl with gdb (if I can still remember how to do it -- I know I did at some point with your help before, so chances are I can find it on the forum).

Love,
Lia

With gdb installed on your system, simply run the viewer from a terminal (pointing in the viewer installation directory) with the command:
Code:
./cool_vl_viewer --debug

If you compile the viewer yourself, do it from /usr/src/ (i.e. so that the 'linden' directory is a sub-directory of /usr/src) and the script will automatically load the debug symbols and give meaningful pointers to the sources in the gdb backtrace.
