"Double image" with flexible prims since going 64-bit on Mac

Since switching to the 64-bit versions of Cool VL Viewer on Mac, I've observed an odd behaviour from some flexible prims such as fluttering flags. Essentially it appears that when the prim flexes to a new position, its previous position "lingers" for a short period, producing a "double image" effect. I have linked pictures of a couple of examples. I don't know if this is Mac-specific, but it does not appear in Firestorm, or the SL viewer, so it does seem to be specific to Cool VL Viewer. The problem does not appear in Cool VL Viewer 1.26.20.42, the last 32-bit version I ran.

Not seen under Linux or Windows. Probably a driver issue... And since I don't have a Mac, I'm afraid I cannot investigate.

If it is a driver problem, it is one that affects 64-bit Cool VL Viewer on two different Macs, each running a different GPU from different manufacturers (Intel HD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M), which I'd expect to use different drivers. I know you don't have a Mac, Henri, but maybe Catten could take a look?

Hello Henri and linyifei,

I have to chime in ... I've seen it happen under Linux, 64-bit. I will try to provide more data as soon as I find the time.

Love,
Lia

I think I know what the problem is: in "Advanced" -> "Render" menu, un-check "Automatic Alpha Mask" (either deferred or not, depending whether you are in ALM rendering mode or not).

I saw that happening today on a Canadian flexi flag, while a US flexi flag just next to it was rendering just fine (might be an issue with texture Alpha on the flexi prim).

Note that this render glitch should be reproducible with any viewer (it's just that the Cool VL Viewer got auto alpha mask ON by default while others may have it OFF).

EDIT: I also fixed that glitch for next release, so you will be able to use auto-alpha-masking even when flexible objects bearing textures with an alpha-channel are around...

Thank you, Henri. I found time to test this on my Mac last night, running Cool VL Viewer 1.26.22.10, and you were quite right. Unchecking Automatic Alpha Mask removes the problem. What do those checkboxes actually do? I don't know what Automatic Alpha Mask means.

These are just optimizations.
