Odd shadow in EEP mode, in viewer later than v1.28.2.44

I have not reflected over it previously, but as I started to play with older viewers while determining the Random crashing with v1.28.2.46 bug, something else came up as well.

In viewers later than v1.28.2.44 I see an odd ground covering shadow if the camera is somewhat close to the ground and lined up with sun from behind or falling into the camera.
Axis of avatar does not seem to have an impact, but angle of camera relative to ground has, and so has lining it up with the sun direction.
No crashing, so no debug log, but it is consistently reproducible for me.

Steps to reproduce:
  • Turn on the Extended Environment (EEP) rendering.
  • Stand on open ground (no obscuring other shadows), and make note of how the shadow from avatar falls.
  • Cam around avatar at waist height or so (not crucial, but the closer to ground the more noticeable shadow)
  • Observe the giant ground covering shadow that shows when the cam is lining up with the avatar shadow, and how a normal avatar shadow shows at 90 degrees difference.
Version v1.28.2.44 does not have this kind of behaviour, v1.28.2.45 shows it.
I run the viewer with "All Shadows" active for the ALM, and water culling enabled for EE+ALM.

Indeed... This comes from a bug in an EE shaders uniforms optimization from one of LL's viewer RC branches (missing uniforms in deferred shaders binding pipeline code). I found a fix, that will be part of next release.

You may not need the water culling any more. I noticed a couple of versions back that I could switch to EE and didn't need culling to prevent the 'sky flash'.

Indeed, it does look like the sky works without the water culling nowadays.
I will keep it off and see if any flickering eventually shows up at some odd place.
Thank you ^_^

And a short follow up on that culling or no culling for anyone else interested. (Always nice with some report back I think?)

After several cruises I can say that the culling is still needed for me.

It mostly works without these days (better than before!), but over water at low viewing angles with long distance towards horizon some flickering still happens where the water and sky blends if culling is not enabled.

Maybe it's a sailor specific issue for us who likes EEP? :D
