Finally, did you try and rebake (CTRL ALT R) ?...
It is highly unlikely that this is a viewer bug introduced in last release (strictly nothing changed that could be, even remotely, related to textures and baking) and this is likely a transitory network issue (that would appear clearly in the log); you could also empty your texture cache ("Preferences" floater "Network & web" tab, press the"Clear disk cache" button and restart the viewer), in case it would be a file corruption (and should the cache clearing fix it, then check that your drive is not having bad sectors; you could use
gsmartcontrol for this purpose).
