Please try the following:
+ have an existing chat log 'Agent Resident.txt'
+ start an IM to that user: The chat history will be loaded from above file. Good.
+ talk to the user and close the chat
+ Now the same user sends you an IM. That leads to a new file 'Agent Agent.txt' being created. The chat history is not loaded. Sucks.
I consider file names like 'Agent Agent.txt' as malformed, and of course I want to keep the existing chat history, especially between different clients. (These malformed names also appear in the list of agents you can send an IM to for those who have "Resident" as their last name: What the heck?)
Please make it so that chat logs are always stored using the UUID of the agent or group the conversation is with, and create symlinks to that file with the user name and to the fake names the user uses.
At least keep the file name consistent and don't create malformed ones.
PS: I just found out that this does not happen always in that sometimes, the filename is created as 'Agent Agent.txt' right away when starting an IM (instead of receiving one), and the existing 'Agent Resident.txt' is then ignored. There may be a difference between starting an IM from the pie menu vs. starting one from the communications window. Ugh. I want consistent chat history!

Cannot reproduce. By default, the viewer uses the exact same log filenames as LL's viewer (this is intended, so that you can log in with either of LL's or my viewer and never loose a line of chat or IM history doing so). Did you change any IM logging setting ? Also, please follow the bug reporting rules and provide logs !

Did this happen across the first of the month boundary? I think the logs are month based and will 'restart' at the beginning (the 1st, or the next day after that a message is received) of each month. I end up with:

This only happens if you change the default configuration for IM log files naming... Of course, if you configure the viewer to append the date, the file names will change with the date !

There's definitely a difference between starting an IM from the communications window and through the pie menue, at least for existing chat logs. I just tried that and had to create a symlink to the 'Agent Agent.txt' variant from 'Agent Resident.txt' when I wanted to send someone an IM through the communications window. I'm trying to attach a screenshot of the chat settings. I did change some in the preferences and otherwise didn't do anything special. The log file is over 200kb and reveals way too much information. I don't think it's relevant in this case. If you tell me what I would I be looking for, I can take a look and provide the relevant part. Maybe I'll take a look at the source code ...

I've had that set for so long, I forgot what that setting's default was. The scheme helps me clear out log files, periodically.

I don't think so, I've started using Cool VL only this month. There is no date information appended to the file names of the chat logs, it's either 'Agent Agent.txt' or 'Agent Resident.txt' for agents having 'Resident' as their last name. For agents having a "normal" last name, it seems to work fine, though I can't be sure yet since there aren't so many of them left. I've been using Firestorm before and converted the chat logs. It turned out that it didn't work because Cool VL is, unexpectely, using either one variant or the other. I would convert them again, but there isn't much point when it behaves inconsistently and when I don't know what it actually uses.

There is no sensitive information, unless you enabled some specific debug tags (the ones dealing with login, for example). If you are worried about login names or voice hash, simply erase them from the log or use a search/replace feature of any text editor to replace them with placeholder text... As for the log size, just zip it ! What you think is irrelevant... No log, no diagnosis, no bug fix. Follow the rules ! Beware: I have no time to loose with uncooperative users.

You want me to go through over 200kb of log file --- i. e. currently 2308 lines, and increasing --- line by line to figure out which information I might not want to reveal so I can remove it. Don't be ridiculous.
There is very well quite a lot of information that I do not want to reveal. There is no simple, easy and quick cut and/or replace with a text editor. Make the software create a usable log file that doesn't reveal information that people might not want to reveal.
I don't see any entries concerning the file names used for chat logs, and that makes it seem irrelevant. I didn't say it is irrelevant.
So just tell me what I need to look for and I'll do my best to provide that information. If you don't know what you're looking for you don't need the log file.

User banned from this forum. That's what happens when someone shows disrespect and stubbornly refuses to follow the rules. If any one else manages to reproduce their issue, please feel free to follow up in this thread, provide the log file and repro steps. But my guess is that they just messed up their log folders...
