Hello!

Not a Cool VL bug, but it will affect all Linux distributions when they will use fontconfig 2.9.0
Some Linux like Debian Wheezy uses now fontconfig 2.9.0 so no more Linden browser than Phoenix or Cool can run, the program starts and crashes fast.

A JIRA was already opened by Jhonnie where she gave the patch that Linden should apply.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/STORM-1854

I Don't know if that help here and if Henry could turn around that .

Have fun ( with your fontconfig 2.8 ) ;-)

Gotta love it when some functions get broken with so called "updates"...

At least the fix seems simple, but I see other asserts in the fontconfig code that could also result in more crashes with other pointers passed as NULL... I will check it.

In the mean time, simply put a v2.8 libfontconfig.so in the lib/ sub-directory of the Cool VL Viewer installation directory and it will load this one instead of the system's lib v2.9...

Hello!

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried it puting the libfontconfig.so 2.8 (from a Debien Sqeeze) in the lib directory of Cool V. but it's the same . Looks like the viewer still uses the system one.

For info I just tried that too with the last liden viewer SecondLife-i686-3.3.1.254524 and it's the same !

I had applied the patch of Jonnie in the Jira (see upper) and used your cmake-sl2.sh script ( --retry )... - lot of swet ;-) - ... and with that patch Cool Viewer works perfectly .

Linden engeeners should awake as now that JIRA and its solution are days old. :-)

Thanks again for your Viewer (Cool should be renamed Cool&Great )

You just need to rename libfontconfig.so.2.8 to libfontconfig.so or libfontconfig.so.1 and it will be taken into account.

It's what I did.
Sorry if my last post was confusing: the 2.8 had to be in parenthesis.
so I put the libfontconfig.so ( a 2.8 version ) in Cool VL viewer lib folder and SecondLife too , but it doesn't help.

But no worry here! as it's not a Cool VL Viewer bug , Linden Lab has to look at it as it's their bug.

As you told in your introduction... maybe few months later they will apply these 2 lines of patch... while we will spen hours looking for why one time suddenly SL doesn't start.

Good luck next SL Linux users updating to a new Linux distribution :-)

And I told you to try and rename it libfontconfig.so.1...

oooh it works with exactly the name libfontconfig.so.1
but strangely (as I tried yesterday ) with its real name libfontconfig.so.1.4.4 or libfontconfig.so.then it doesn't.
( the same with LL Viewer 3.3.1 )
