And another quick hello,

finally managed to get the crash info for crash type (1). Attaching it to this post ...

Love,
Lia

It's a crash in the Cairo library (which is a component of GTK+): another proof that the bug is in that particular GTK+ release. Please, report to your distro's upstream, for I can do strictly *nothing* about it !

Hi Henri et al.,

don't want to leave this open end dangling. Both crash types have disappeared, it seems, with 1.26.5.10 onward, although I am unaware that there have been any GTK-related updates to my system. Either way, the issue seems resolved.

Love,
Lia

I am adding my own logs too, in case it helps solve the issue or at least find a temporary workaround. So far I've tried downgrading to the version of gtk Ubuntu 11.10 used, manually copying the pcre *.so.* files to the viewer's lib directory and changing the viewer's libcollada14.so.* file to Firestorm's one. Nothing worked. I have reverted my Arch Linux system to the current versions (see below), but if you want me to retry any of the above and provide logs, I can do it.

Currently I have:

Code:
gtk2 2.24.13-1
lib32-gtk2 2.24.13-1
pcre 8.31-1
lib32-pcre 8.31-1.

Thanks!

PS: It happens with all viewers using libcollada, and yes, I should be providing these logs to LL, but I trust in your capabilities to think of something, not theirs; I did read the discussion with Oz, after all.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.34 (stable branch):

New in this release:

Added a PCRE dynamic llibrary to the Linux package to try and work around bad PCRE library issues encountered on some Linux distros (namely Ubuntu 12.04 and its derivatives).

It worked!! In my Arch system I needed to add a libpng 1.5.1 binary too (files libpng15.so.15.1.0 and its symbolic links libpng15.so.15 and libpng15.so) as well.

If I may ask, which version of PCRE (libpcre.so.0) did you use?

Hmm... Yes, I should probably add libpng.so as well for good measure...

it's the one that corresponds to the libpcre.a that gets statically linked to the viewer (the dynamic version is also needed because the dynamic libcolladom.so library uses pcre...). See LL's 3p-pcre on the mercurial for the sources.

I'm afraid I have it again. Logs attached. Perhaps it's the fault of some update in my system again? (lib32-cairo, lib32-pango etc)

I remind you I have put a lib32-libpng binary in thel lib/ folder, but without it the stacktrace is the exact same with a few lines of
Code:
#11 0xf609f228 in ?? () from /usr/lib32/libpng15.so.15

added.

Also, no, I don't use oxygen-gtk.

If you need any more information, please ask.

(Btw, I thought this thread had been merged to another of Lance's, but I couldn't find it now. I beg your pardon.)

Try disabling the threaded file picker setting by un-checking: "Advanced" -> "UI" -> "Use a non-blocking file picker"

If this fails, I'm afraid I cannot do anything for you... You'll have to try and replace the libpng library in your system and/or to add one to the viewer lib/ distribution. I cannot bundle the libpng library used to build the viewer because it is statically linked to it and bundling the corresponding dynamic libpng would cause immediate crashes in your system's GTK (since each set of GTK library set in each Linux distro uses different libpng versions).

Note that this is not specific to the Cool VL Viewer: LL will soon need to update their GTK pre-built libraries if they don't want to run into more incompatibilities with the newest Linux distros...

Alas, it failed :( I am using a lipng 1.5.1 which I copy into the lib/ folder (see above), which used to work until recently. Oh well, I'll keep a pre-mesh-upload viewer around for importing/exporting until LL updates their prebuilt libraries. Thank you.
