hello,

i dont know why but the latest release of the Cool VL Viewer Experimental branch needs much more PC Performance.
The older Version 1.26.5.16 just needs around 800 - 900 MB RAM.
The newer Version 1.26.5.17 needs around 1.8 GB RAM with the same preferences.

I do change nothing, just installed the Update, but now i hat so much LAG that i reinstalled the 1.26.5.16 Version.

sincerely Yours
Dae

I have seen the same effect once with 1.26.5.16, but was not really reproducible.

And i do not see it with anymore either on Win7 or Win8, even though i did not change anything.

You can try to switch the viewer to 'compatibility mode' and select XP SP3, to get a totally different memory
management, that might help if it is really the new memory manager. But get some logs for Henri first ;-).

I won't recommend doing this at all !.... Windows 7 got a much better memory manager than XP, that cares for fragmentation of small memory blocks, and the viewer runs much better with it.
Note however that Windows is much less efficient than Linux as far as memory fragmentation goes, meaning that over time the viewer will keep more and more memory for itself (because its heap is fragmented and it can't therefore release some freed space in it to the system). This is not too much of a problem however, because I implemented an algorithm that computes what actual memory the viewer is using so that the throttling via texture bias changes can keep working properly. When compared to most (all ?) other viewers, the Cool VL Viewer will keep eating up less memory (since the other viewers never release the freed memory to the system and just keep growing in size as time passes, till they reach their maximum 3Gb heap space and finally crash).
