Are the forums being hit by bots? I keep getting the following error.

General Error

User sldev already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections [1203]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

I have been encountering this for the last few days, as well.

Yes, likely a DDoS attack on my ISP's web servers: see the number of "total users online".

The PHP engine then reacts and blocks requests in excess. Nothing I can do on my end...

Just reload the page until you get through.

At least, it won't impact the main site and the downloads.

I'm on a ham radio forum that was having the same problem. They put one of those
click to prove your human pages before you get to the forums. That solved it.

  1. My ISP is not using Cloudflare.
  2. Cloudflare sucks and broke most "minor" browsers, such as Pale Moon.

Not sure which countries the attacks are coming from (I don't have access to the Apache server logs), but I can see in Webalizer's stats that many connections (way too much considering the percentage of SL users from these countries) are coming from Russia and Brazil...
I therefore banned the IPs for these countries from the forum, and while there is still an excessive traffic, this seems to have somewhat alleviated the load.

Sorry for legit Brazilian and Russian visitors.

My ISP apparently (and at last) took the necessary measures at their server/firewall level, and the forum online users stats are now back to normal.

I removed the forum ban on Brazilian and Russian IPs for now.

Let's see how it will fare...

A new attack seems to be underway. I reactivated the Russian and Brazilian bans on the forum...
