I found out a serious issue with server-side baking...

It becomes impossible to adjust your avatar's height and bounding box (X and Y size).

I described the issue and its consequences in this JIRA (that should be open for anyone to see): please vote for it and follow it (Lindens count popularity from the followers number), so that we don't see a very bad regression forced down our throats together with server-side baking.

There seems to be have been a remarkably quick fix from the Lindens, leading to an extra slider in the Appearance interface, and an extra number shored with the shape. I'm not sure that's a good answer: it means you need write access to the AV shape.

But I admit to being baffled. How does the way the texture is generated, which is applied to the Avatar surface, change the position of the Avatar?

Animations, poses, sits; they all have some way of shifting the zero-point of the AV. Has anyone tested what the SSB system does to these? If this is a TPV problem, do the Lindens understand what went wrong with somebody else's code?

This is beginning to feel like a crazy-quick fix. And I hope I don't need to be scared.

The proposed "fix" is completely inadequate and cannot replace the Z-offset as we currently know it and use it. See my last comment in SUN-38.
