This week, Oz announced that their viewer-development-materials branch was nearing the end of its beta cycle, meaning that LL is considering that the materials viewer is almost ready for release... quite a bit too optimistic, in my opinion...

Anyway, it is time for people interested in having a viewer that renders things properly and allows to edit objects safely, to hurry up and test the materials viewers (the Cool VL Viewer, but also LL's !).

If you find bugs in LL's materials viewer, please open a JIRA issue under the MATBUG category.

If you find bugs specific to the Cool VL Viewer, please post them in the bug report forum (and be sure to read the rules and to provide the required info).
I am especially interested in knowing if you encounter any issue when editing prims and objects, using materials (specular and/or normal maps) or not, since the code for the face panel of the build floater is different from LL's.

Enabling materials isn't very reliable right now, when it comes to the bumpiness.

I switch enhanced rendering on, the dress is pretty well bumped as it should, and suddenly all flat and smooth again. When it looses its bumpiness, the dress is just shiny as if you only enabled the flat shininess you usually have for prims (all smooth).

It switches around between those three states, looks like it may be depended on redraw of the avatar, like if you zoom out behind a wall and the avatar is hidden, zoom back in and woah, the dress is bumpy again, but loses it again as you move around the camera, it seems.

fully wrong: http://xp2.de/tillie/green%20just%20shiny.jpg
then half wrong: http://xp2.de/tillie/green%20half%20bumpy.jpg - it starts to get a BIT bumpy, until it is
all well: http://xp2.de/tillie/green%20full%20bumpy.jpg

No idea what this causes and I didn't try with the LL client yet. Will investigate further.

If it's working it is looking pretty cool, though. :)

That's bumpy only: http://images.plurk.com/ek3m-4qtKi8svLuPrkmEvrkSHZS.jpg
This is the same dress, same color, but shiny and bumpy: http://images.plurk.com/ek3m-2MtzCs3BeUqrS9rDkTSBBA.jpg

It's just because the bumpy texture is loaded at different LODs (from the lowest to the highest).

Note that I'm not too much interested in such glitches unless you can see them only in the Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9 (i.e. if LL's nighty builds got them, it's normal to find them in the Cool VL Viewer as well): I'm interested only in Cool VL Viewer-specific bugs; the other bugs have to be reported as MATBUGs on the official JIRA, using LL's nighty builds as the reference.

Okies. :-)

Btw. I have not seen any texture-breaking bugs so far. But all I did was texturing some mesh dresses (all 3 textures) and messing with the values for shiny and stuff.

LL just released the Materials Viewer ... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Get-the-New-Materials-Viewer-Today/ba-p/2051927?utm_source=Blog&utm_medium=Story&utm_campaign=SocialCM

We'll see if it's still bugged ...
