Hello,

with a client in development that does support Oculus Rift, is there any way to control avatar movement via gamepads?

A client, where you have to use the keyboard, and where you need to peek out from under your Riftz won't work at all.

Just wondering.

Probably no Cool VL Viewer topic, but still something worth to think about. :)

I know it is working with my Space Navigator, but most people don't have one, and chances are higher they have a gamepad somewhere.

I would be inclined to think that a gamepad would work just like a joystick (or at least, it would under Linux), and since the viewer already supports joysticks, there's nothing to change to the code...

Tried and it didnt work, but I plugged the gamepad in during client launch and the space explorer was still plugged in, too. Will do some more tests. :)

I regularly use a gamepad controller in SL, especially when driving vehicles, but I use a software interface called Gamepad Companion to do it. I think you have to get it from Apple's App Store now, but it is pretty cheap. In my experience, it works fine with "generic" Logitech gamepads. If you have XBox or PS pads, read the notes about support for them on Carveware's website.

I found SL's built-in support for joysticks way too frustrating to use.
