I finally decided to compile Linux builds without jemalloc from now on (I'll keep testing the latter when new versions will be released, just in case it would again show an advantage over glibc's malloc() like it did in the past).

Let me now in this thread in case the new builds are less stable than old jemalloc-enabled ones...

I should have gotten back earlier, but you published 1.26.12.3 in the meantime.

I still have the feeling of the glibc version being slightly slower on rezzing a scene than the jemalloc version (is it something I'm imagining, or is there a difference?) but on the plus side is that it definitively seems less memory consuming.

I was at a quite crowded place on Sunday (using the latest 1.26.12.3), and typically that has earlier equalled to hitting the memory roof (and finally crash) but not this time, everything was working flawlessly.
To me that says that the current glibc version is at least equal in stability. It will be interesting to hear others views on it.

Keep up the good work Henri, you know we complain if it doesn't work :D

Placebo effect... The only difference you could eventually notice is at very high frame rates after a long session (for example, when you retire in a skybox with a 100+ FPS frame rate, after a long session in a busy place and/or many TPs): in this particular case, the memory will be very fragmented and glibc way slower than jemalloc when trimming the heap to release back the freed memory to the system, which happens once a second in the Cool VL Viewer, meaning that every second, one frame will take more time (3ms or so, instead of less than 0.5ms) during an idle call, and at high frame rates, you might notice the resulting "hiccup".

But during rezzing, the memory allocation calls per frame are not many enough to make a noticeable difference with jemalloc's faster allocations.

Yes, so it seems to me as well.

HI M. Beauchamps

it would be a shame that you stop your Linux support sir.
My Ubuntu 10.04 machine is still able to connect to SL thanks to your version. 1.26.8.
As to my 64 bites 14.04 machine, unfortunately, I did not find time to install the proper 32 bytes ubuntu support pack to run the newest and greatest Cool VL as of yet.
I have been your addict user since SL switch to version 2 and cannot stress how important your contribution is to virtual reality .

Thanks for your great work sir.
