Nope... I'm already maintaining two stable branches, plus one experimental branch (when a RC is available) of the Cool SL Viewer. I cannot afford spending more of my time on a fourth branch.

Beside, you can bet that many features from SnowGlobe will make their way to the next RC branch...

I wouldnt want to maintain more than you do right now either, was just wondering if you were already messing with SG.

Snowglobe is the name of the new viewer created by Linden Lab's new open source viewer system. Info is at wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Source_Portal and there's a blog post at https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/technology/blog/2009/03/30/intensifying-open-source-efforts .

Yeah, I think I'm stuck running Snowglobe just because the latest v1.23 viewer is so buggy textures don't even load properly.

If you're ever bored, check it out. No Cool features, No RLV...but at least it loads well, similar to v1.22(is that when they branched? I dunno).

Anyways, thanks for the heads up. Until things stabilize, I'll just run seperate caches...one for Cool...and one for SL.

Cheers,

Forbin Fallen

I do not see any difference, here, between v1.22 and v1.23 as far as textures loading and objects rezzing go... They are as fast (or as slow for old computers for which v1.19 is still the winner), and textures load just fine. Please, check that libkdu is installed properly.

Snowglobe is using the HTTP protocol for textures downloading from the sim servers, so it migh be faster on poor reliability connections (since HTTP uses TCP instead of UDP, and TCP automatically deals with packets loss and repetition).

As far as the crash rate goes, v1.23 is actually much stabler than v1.22, and I never got a crash so far: I can stay logged in the whole day long... Needless to say I'm speaking of the Cool SL Viewer (not of the official viewer).

i have to say, i get a lot of crashes.

doesn't matter if i'm running CV or original, Windows or Linux, Laptop or Desktop computer.

the symptoms are always the same:
textures load slower and slower, the logfile fills up with an error message "unable to upload baked texture", then at some point it gets unbearably laggy, followed by a crash.
That usually means that it is time to clear cache before i log back in.
All i can say for sure that this happens more frequently (as in, several times a day) on days where the whole grid is unstable anyways.

Oh, and on windows i also get LOTS of black screen + "the application "Second Life" is not responding" shit.
Also not depending on laptop versus desktop.

This is the sign that the network connection with the sim server is being lost, thus the crashes... It could be a faulty router on the path from your computer to LL's servers. I'd first blame a faulty ADSL modem and/or problems at my ISP's.

I know _exactly_ which router is to blame there :/
and everybody that i actually CAN talk to is trying to shift the blame to anybody else. According to my communications, linden labs' provider is responsible for the connection between LLs router, and the router on the other end of their leased line, and my provider is responsible for the connection between my ADSL modem and their router, and whenever it comes to anything that is between my provider's router and ll#s providers router, all i get from any involved party is "no that would be them, not us".
