Cool VL Viewer forum

Looks like LL has plans to start blocking 3rd party viewers that have feature sets they don't want to allow. Some of those feature sets (such as copybot or ban dodging) we would obviously want to be blocked, but what other features would LL want to block? And the more important question: would it even do any good when any 3rd party viewer can just spoof itself as an approved viewer?

The Cool SL Viewer does not include such copyright infringing or ban evading tools. As such, it should not be impacted by LL's new policy.

Good to know. Let's just hope the linkset import/export feature doesn't make it on the list.

It shouldn't be a problem, since the export feature only works for full perm objects you own...

Beside, in this discussion, the viewers (3rd party or not) cannot be taken responsible for everything illegal a resident does with them: at some point, the responsibility of the said resident is the actual determinant factor. You can harden or obfuscate all you want in the viewers, but at some point, the transmitted data has to be decoded in order to be used and the virtual world rendered on your screen. Even with LL's viewer, it's not hard a task to write a program that would extract the said data from its cache, for example.
