Can observance of the 256 prim linking limit be removed when Cool Viewer is running on opensimulator? I've had a problem a couple of times where a linkset in opensimulator with more than 256 prims would break apart upon being edited with Cool Viewer.

As far as I know, prim linking limits (number of prims and distance between prim centers) is dealt with server side only... Are you sure your object won't break with other viewers as well (it could happen, depending whether it was build prior a limit was implemented on OpenSim) ?

I'm quite sure. By default, OpenSimulator allows for more than 256 prims in a linkset. The limits are implemented both client and server side. Though, the viewer I had used to make the linkset was Hippo, rather than Meerkat.

Good Day, just to chime in on this topic.

OpenSim does support linksets larger then 255 prims and can in fact link all objects across an entire region (256x256m). I have been doing this since 0.6.6 of OpenSim.

Hippo Viewer has said required code to allow for Large Linksets. The only caveat is that you create Linksets of 255 and then link the linksets together. I have builds which are linked in excess of 2000 prims as one object spanning an entire region.

Hi,

I am limited to 256 prims in a linkset using CoolVLViewer 1.26.2 (11) Dec 27 2011 .

Any news on this front? I tried increase the linkage through the creation of two linked sets. I get the message:

"Unable to link these 260 objects. You can link a maximum of 256 objects.

Can anybody confirm whether the CoolVLViewer 1.26.2 can link more than 256 prims, by whatever the method? Thanks.

Gordon

Unfortunately, this capability has not been added to Cool Viewer as yet. OpenSim server side & I believe that even SL server side supports this ability but the code within the viewer limits how many objects can be linked.

Aside from Hippo, Meerkat and possibly Imprudence, I'm unsure if other viewers being capable at this time. I heard rumour that Pheonix / FireStorm may but as I won't use them, I can't say.
