I occasionally use the Kirstens and Imprudence viewers which annoyingly create their own directories. I link the .kirsten20 and .imprudence directories to .secondlife so I don't end up with multiple chat logs!...LOL...and so I do a manual wipe of the .secondlife/cache directory when I switch to these viewers..just to be safe.
Instead of having to wipe the cache whenever you switch from one viewer to another, you could simply change the cache directory once and for all in each viewer settings (Preferences -> Network -> Disk cache location). It is also true for different viewer branches and for example, I use three different caches for the Cool VL Viewer three branches (CacheCoolLegacy, CacheCoolWindlight and CacheCoolSnow), and I let the default "cache" directory for the official viewer (for the rare times I need to test stuff in it). The only drawback is that it consumes more space on your hard disk (but nowadays' disks provide plentiful space).
