I have heard the LL is going to ban all 1.2x viewers. Is this true?
The new 2.x viewers are way to slow. In a place where I get 20fps in CoolVLViewer, I get 9fps in the same place on the 2.x viewers. I really don't want to use the official viewer.

No, this is untrue. As long as the viewers can cope with the changes in the grid protocols, there is no reason for LL to ban them.

That's good to know. Glad you're still working on Cool and glad they wont make us stop using it.
Thanks Henri.

curiously enough i found 2.x to be a bit snappier than 1.23 and snowglobe. But I'm running 2.4.0... and the lack of additional features a.k.a. cool viewer etc is mildly discouraging anyways.

Apparently, starting with the mesh "first look" viewer, LL made the pipeline multi-threaded, meaning that multi-cores CPUs are able to feed the video card faster (the bottle neck of the viewer is definitely the CPU side code for the rendering pipeline; for example, I recently upgraded my main system from a 8800GT to a GTX460, and got no improvement whatsoever in frame rates in v1 and v2.2 viewers). However, on my system, the Cool VL Viewer is still faster than viewer 2, and only eats up one core CPU-side when viewer 2 gabs 2 or 3 of them...

I don't know what the problem is with 2.0 and 2.3. I have an AMD Phenom Quad Core, 3GB RAM and an 8800GT. I've tested in various places setting both clients to the same graphic and network settings and the new viewers give me half the FPS.

That makes sense. I'll give that a try. Thanks Henri.

Well, RenderUseFBO and RenderDeferred were already set to false. However, I turned off foot shadows and fog. That seems to have made a huge difference.

speaking of those effing foot shadows, is there a way to switch them off and make that persistent?
