Gnome 3 has a new feature that conflicts with Cool VL Viewer's hot keys. Ctl-Alt-Shift-R, toggle radar in CV, toggles the screen cast capture built in to Gnome-shell instead. The only way you will know that the screen capture is on is a small red dot in the corner of your screen and on a dual monitor system it can be missed entirely--well it was by me anyway.

I've googled and found nothing on how to change that particular keyboard shortcut in Gnome. If anyone else has, i'd love to hear how.

Not sure about Gnome 3 (it's so ugly I never kept it installed and I'm still using Gnome v2.30 instead), but in Gnome 2, you got an option in the keyboard properties settings (gnome-keyboard-properties, "Layouts" tab, "Options" button, "Miscellaneous compatibility options", "Special keys (CTRL+ALT+<key>) handled in a server") that could prevent Gnome from using such shortcuts for itself...

You'd think they'd provide such a way. In fact, you can change most of the other keyboard shortcuts, but not that one. I expect they'll get around to making it possible at some point but for now we're stuck with it.

Yes, alas Gnome became worst and worst with each new major release... I long for the good old Gnome v1.4 days, when it was still a smart desktop environment. Even with Sawfish as the window manager (to replace the ridiculously dumb Metacity bundled with Gnome), v2 is still far from what v1.4 could deliver in term of customizing and user-friendliness... Nowadays, UI designers seem to think that the dumber and more awkward, bloated and slow the UI, the better it is... In fact, it's the same thing that happened to the SL viewer over time...

I for one seriously consider switching to XFce when Gnome v2 will die by lack of proper support.

XFCE is good, although it has some nuisances now, which should be ameliorated in the next version (4.10, expected in 2012). LXDM is about the same, but you can always try Mate, which is a Gnome2 fork. I have switched to KDE, which I hadn't used in about a decade, and I see that I like it a lot.
