This is not a bug but indeed the expected behaviour !
When you click on an URL to open it in the built-in browser, the displayed page is considered untrusted (because someone could point you to a custom or crafted page with dangerous SLURLs on it, such as pay or TP actions) and you can't therefore open viewer floaters from it. Instead of browsing directly to a group URL by clicking in the chat on the said URL, you should instead search for the said group (in the web search tab of the Search floater, for example), in which case the search result is trusted and further clicks on SLURLs in it will indeed trigger the profile and other viewer floaters opening.
