Okay, I like using Cool Viewer in preference to other 3rd party viewers. In particular, I like to use it with opensimulator grids. However, I cannot use it with the standalone opensim on my computer. Any time I edit grids.xml, the changes I make are not observed at all. And launching cool viewer on command line with the --griduri argument does nothing. What am I doing wrong?

You probably made a mistake in the grids.xml syntax.

Add this block just before the </array> tag, at the end of the file:
Code:
         <map>
            <key>name</key><string>localhost</string>
            <key>label</key><string>Local</string>
            <key>login_uri</key><string>http://127.0.0.1:8002/</string>
            <key>helper_uri</key><string>http://127.0.0.1/</string>
         </map>

And you will get a "Local" grid entry at the end of the list of grids...

The next release of the Cool SL Viewer v1.23.5.0 will include this local grid entry as well.

The grids are hard-coded for the v1.19.0.5 branch of the Cool SL Viewer: for this branch, use the -loginuri and -helpuri command line options to access new grids.

For the v1.23.5.0 branch of the Cool SL Viewer, grid parameters are stored in an editable XML file (grids.xml) that you will find in the app_settings sub-folder of the installation directory.

Simply use a basic text editor (such as notepad under Windows)...
