Also, I just had a try with the Cool VL Viewer v1.26.22.37 running on two different computers with two different avatars, and I could voice between them without any problem (start IM session then "Call" button in IM floater)... So I guess your issue is related with Vivox voice client versions incompatibilities between the old one used in my viewer (that is needed for Linux) and the one running in your friends' viewer...
