clothes taking 5 minutes to be visible, and more

Hello,

I noticed this a couple months ago.. but it seems it's happening more often..
I am not sure what is causing it.

When I attach clothes (or technically any attachment), it can take up to 5 minutes to become visible, and then when they will be attached but float in the air.
What I do to correct this is clear the cache, and relog. ( it does take a lot of time to retrieve the inventory too ;-)

I would say it doesn't happen with all clothes. It seems to me it happened with some clothes only, and now happening with most of the new clothes I buy. Higher textures, complexity ? or my inventory growing more and more ?
a setting that I applied ?

what info should I send ? I don't see any particular message in the log when this happens

Try with a full log attached (see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5 ).

I saw slower inventory loading since LL moved the servers to the cloud, but that might be just a coincidence. Putting clothes on is usually still fast.

of course now that I shut the viewer to have clean logs, I am able to put the clothes on real fast! ;-)
I'll send full logs at the next occurrence. Probably tonight =)

thanks ! =)

Network and server issues are not viewer bugs...

Here, I rez everything blazing fast, but depending on the quality of your link with the server, and sometimes with the server own issues, things might take longer or fail...

In any case, there is strictly nothing that can be done viewer-side (the viewer must wait for the server to send the rezzed objects data, and the replies to the rebake requests)...

There's just one thing you can do, when the AISv3 inventory protocol goes ballistic on the server side, it's to disable it and rebake. The toggle is in Advanced -> Network. Should you encounter AISv3 failures (they are logged as warnings), just toggle it off.

what about the clothes floating in the air ?
I understand it can be "caused by lag". but probably it's more caused by graphics calculations.
I see it happening at cowded clubs. no explanation needed.

I am wondering why it can happen in a place fully loaded, and randomly seemingly.
at my home, clothes will sometimes attach, then stay floating for hours, even after a TP.
other times, still at my hohme, clothes will attach in the proper place immediately.

seems to me that the last step , to orient correctly the mesh object ( rigged ) doesn't happen.
maybe it's not rigging correctly ?

thanks =)

I'm interested in the answer to this question too. I have quite a poor bandwidth, and this is typically what happens in crowded places: I basically have to wait until the mesh queue is completely empty to see mesh clothes & body parts go to where they're supposed to be. It's almost as if the rigging/fitting info is always loaded last, so everything is a mess until the whole download is complete. This also means that in places with a bit of turnover, everything is always a mess, as there are always new things to download piling up in the mesh queue as people come and go.
If there's any workaround for that, I'd be really interested. :)

There is no way for viewers to start and rig the mesh (causing it to "fall into place") before all the mesh data has been downloaded... I'm afraid there is no solution to speed that up.

hello,

happening again, and I don't see how to correct it but to clear disk cache and relog.
in the logs provided, the issue happens a few minutes before closing the viewer. if it can help.
I can try starting a session and attaching clothes just then.

description : clothe takes time to "appear".
an invisi box attached at the right place immediately. ( it's an invisi box (coming with the clothe) that displays a menu when touched )
clothe does not appear before a few minutes ( time for a coffee . I'll measure with more precision if needed )
clothe appears , floating in the air. no texture, all grey.
clothe stays in the air, texture comes in after another coffee time/

I'm not being vey precise and I'll measure next time if that can help.
I tried making a copy of the clothe, and attach this one instead. but same thing.
I tried moving to another SIM ( not in this logfile ) but it didn't do any good.

let me know what you would need more ?
thank you =)

The log is incomplete, but nothing wrong at all in the available part...

Did you try to zoom out/in with the mouse wheel ?...
Sometimes, just after rezzing, the meshes stay invisible until their LOD (level of detail) is re-calculated; this is a race condition existing in all viewers but that happens only occasionally, and for which I got a partial work-aound (for TPs and logins) in the Cool VL Viewer.
Changing the camera zoom level triggers such a recalculation.
The "Advanced" -> "Rendering" -> "Refresh visibility of objects" feature (shortcut ALT SHIFT R) may also be helpful...
