Bom issues on system avatar in version 64 in OpensIm 0.9.2..

Probably senility creeping up on me, you'll get there too sooner or later :)

I just logged into SecondLife and there's no such issue there so your hypothesis about the large Opensim textures might be the answer.

Avatar texture bakes are not done the same way at all in SL (they happen server-side and are already rendered at 1024x1024): you just cannot compare the two procedures (that belong to different code paths).
