 I have version 1.23.5 (16)...should i update this ? and if so how do i do that.

Yes, you should. If under Windows simply install the latest diff package over your old installation (i.e. in the same directory, see this Howto). If under Linux, simply extract the latest diff tarball inside the directory of your old installation.
