Windlight Folder on Mac OS X

I have just started using the Mac version of Cool Viewer. I would like to add some more Windlight settings, and I have them ready to go. I navigate to:

~/Library/Application Support/CoolVLViewer/user_settings/windlight/skies

The folder is empty...or the files are hidden.

Can a Mac user tell me if I am looking in the right place? The viewer definitely has Windlight presets installed, I can see them in the Viewer Sky menu.

Thanks.

The user_settings directory only holds the settings you changed or saved yourself: the default Windlight sky settings are stored in the app_settings/windlight/ sub-directory of the viewer installation directory (not sure where it lives under MacOS-X: I don't have any MacOS-X system here).

In any case, you must save the new settings from the viewer Windlight floater, and *not* change the default settings by hand (else your changes will be lost on next update).

Sadly, installation directories on Mac don't work the same way, so I don't know where it lives either. The only CoolVLViewer folder I have found is in the user directory. My problem - I will keep investigating. Thanks for your help.

[Edit] I just found instructions. I will try them when I get home and post them on the off chance they might help another user.

So, on the off chance that there is one other person who wants to do this and does not know how....

Cool Viewer comes with many wonderful Windlight presets. However, if you would like to add more presets (.xml files that can be downloaded from some generous Second Life users), this is how to do it on a Mac:

1. Go to your Applications folder and right-click on the version of Cool Viewer you're running.

2. Select 'Show Package Contents.' It should open a new window with a folder called 'Contents'

3. Open the 'Contents' folder, then within it open 'Resources', then within that open 'app_settings', then within that open 'windlight.'

4. In the 'windlight' folder your will see sub-folders for 'sky', 'water' and 'day'.

5. Drag the .xml files into the appropriate folders.

They should now show up in the Environmental Settings / Advanced Sky and Water Editors as presets.

And also you will probably have to repeat that process every time you update Cool VL Viewer.

Custom presets should be added in the user_settings/windlight/ sub-directory in the directory that contains all the user settings (not sure where it is stored on Macs, in Linux it's in ~/.secondlife), *not* in the application's app_settings/windlight/ sub-directory (since that one can be deleted/overwritten when the viewer is updated).

I noted the location of that folder in my first post:

~/Library/Application Support/CoolVLViewer/user_settings/windlight/skies

I thought I was being told that it was not the proper location for user imported presets. I'm sorry that I misunderstood. Probably best to delete the thread.
