Stack IMs vertically?

Is it possible to do this in the Cool VL Viewer, as it is in Emerald (and, I think, Imprudence)? And, if it's not, would you consider introducing this as an option? If I've got a lot of IMs and group chats open, I often find it easier and more convenient to resize the IM window so it's long and narrow.

The IMs window is, like the chat history, always best wider than taller. I personally keep it half as wide as the screen (on a 16/9 monitor) , and only 8 lines or so tall: in this way, I can see the last 2 to 8 IMs (depending on how long each IM is) in each tab with as little line-wrapping as possible (while a narrow IMs window would make each IM wrap multiple times every few words and thus more difficult to read) and yet can keep over a dozen of stacked tabs or more without problem with the tabs only taking one line of space on the screen, when vertical tabs eat up much more space (an avatar name wide on the full height of the IMs window, which you would have to keep much taller than just 8 lines).

I'm afraid it won't be a very popular "feature" (you are the first and so far only one to request it) and I have better things to do than spending time implementing it (will work next on the inventory objects links backport from the v2.0 viewer).

I would also like to see this feature.

When Emerald first came out with this feature lots of people were very happy to see it.

I didn't see the point of it until a friend, who'd been playing with her settings in Emerald, said "try this and see what you think." I did, and found it far more convenient than the way I was used to.

The wiki page about tweaks for Viewer 2 suggests you can do it yourself in Viewer 2 by just editing an xml file, and I see the patch at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3265 is xml too. Since it can apparently be changed manually in Viewer 2, could I use the jira patch manually to edit the appropriate files in Cool VL Viewer, or wouldn't that work?

I'm 100% converted to Vertical IM tabs. As a performer, I often get huge storms of IMs during and immediately after a show. with the horizontal format, to see who's IM'd me, I need to stretch my IM panel across the whole bloody screen- and even that is not always sufficient. Part of my job is to be friendly with the fans, answer requests, share booking info with potential employers, etc. I REALLY cannot afford to ignore someone just because their IM was buried offscreen. Loving CV for everything else, but I can't convert fully until/unless this becomes an available option. (I'd be happy if someone could hand me a custom XML tweak even.)

EEEEEEEEEEEEK - I so totally disagree! When I perform, half the width of my screen is already eaten up by liner notes, streaming utilities, and other performance tools- and another 25% is eaten by the space where critical blue notes drop, (who has tipped, in particular, and needs to be thanked.) I need my chat window tiny, AND I still need to see who has IMed.

Emerald has had vertical tabs for ages- as does Imprudence. Emerald's users are more than 80% in favor of it, roughly judging by the responses when it was discussed in forums. And Emerald has just hit a very nast snag in the road of it's popularity. There are many users who will be emigrating from it's viewer to others they feel they can more safely trust. I suspect the popularity of the option would be greater than you know. Still- if someone could offer a personally implementable xml patch, that would be plenty good enough for me.

Thank you Henri! (And in the nick of time, too, if the song of the dramabirds on the wind rings true...)
