Hello,

Some attachments in my outfit seem to detach by themselves when logging out, then logging back in. They are there when I leave, but when I come back, they are no more attached. As far as I can say, it did only happen with attachment that weren't alone on their attachment points so far, but I'm not sure it is related. Did that in a few different places, it seems it always happens, wherever I log out from.

I'm attaching the SecondLife.log file.

Here is my system info as reported by the 'About…' menu:

The relevant lines in the log are here:

Obviously, your inventory cache was corrupted... Are you switching between the Cool VL Viewer and another viewer and using the same cache directory for both ?... If yes, please change the cache directory for the Cool VL Viewer (Preferences -> Network & Web tab).

Thanks for the answer, but unfortunately it didn't work. I am indeed switching from another viewer, so I first cleared my cache completely, but it did the same. They I did exactly what you said and changed the cache directory location, but no improvement: The attachments are still missing when I log back in. I checked the contents of the new cache directory and Cool VL Viewer did put something in it, so the change was obviously taken into account. But the same lines are appearing in the log. I'm attaching the new one.

If you are switching to another viewer and then changing what you avatar is wearing in it (or modifying your inventory by moving attachments around), it is *normal* that the Cool VL Viewer will not know what to attach back on your Av (or more exactly, it will reattach the attachments that were attached when you last logged off from the Cool VL Viewer): the attachments your avatar is wearing are saved into a per-account XML file by the Cool VL Viewer (this prevents having to use the "My Outfit" folder with inventory links in it, since this method is incompatible with OpenSim grids which don't have inventory links implemented).

This is in no way a bug. It would be one if and only if you won't get the proper objects reattached between two consecutive Cool VL Viewer sessions.

Seems to be a misunderstanding: I'm not switching back and forth between several viewers. I was using Phoenix, and now I have switched to Cool VL Viewer. So there was an existing cache that might have been corrupted or invalid. It did clear it completely now, so my cache has been completely recreated by Cool VL Viewer, and it's the only viewer I'm using. I reproduced the problem quite a few times: I'm in SL, with Cool VL Viewer, wearing a few prim attachments. I log out, log back in immediately, still with Cool VL Viewer, and some of the attachments are missing, with the message in the log "WARNING: checkAttachments: xxx not found in inventory, could not reattach." So I'm exactly in the case you describe: Two consecutive Cool VL Viewer sessions, and proper objects not reattached…

Obviously your installation of the viewer is wrong... Please, reinstall properly or complain to Guru Coyote who is responsible for the Mac builds.

OK, here is what I did: I wiped out everything in both the settings and the cache directories. I logged back in again, set the cache size to the maximum (1 Gb) to be sure it was big enough, logged out to allow the cache to clear itself. Then I logged back in, waited for my whole inventory to load, made sure all my attachments were actually attached, then logged out and logged back in. No improvement: I'm still losing a few, basically always the same ones. But my inventory is fully loaded as soon as I'm logged in. And the messages I get in the log are the same: "WARNING: checkAttachments: blah-blah not found in inventory, could not reattach.".

I can try to contact Guru Coyote, but I really can't see how this could be build-related…

Look, you reported in this thread having problem that are obviously related with a bad installation (bad/missing XML files), and you are reporting here an issue that would deal with something that has been implemented for now over a year and that never caused any problem for any one else during all this time, and that I cannot reproduce here under either Linux or Windows. Since you are running a Mac build, the only logical conclusion is that either this is a Mac build issue, or there's something really fishy with your system... In any case, I'm afraid I can't help you.

Just a quick note here: the last version of Cool VL Viewer that I built for Mac is a few versions behind (1.26.0.27 and 1.26.2.5) due to my lack of time and opportunity to update the build.
I'll see to create a new (current) buiod soon, but it may be the week after xmas before that happens.

There is one details about the branding of Cool VL Viewer (on Mac) that *might* be related to the issue at hand: currently the Mac version still stores all it's settings, cache etc. in the same directory as the default SecondLife viewer (or Snowglobe)... I wasn't sure if this should have been customized and didn't yet get around to asking Henri about this.

Sorry to be of so little help just now,
-GC

I did completely wipe out this directory yesterday before running CVLV again. I got back all the default settings and preferences when I logged back in, so I guess it did work. But the problem was still there, even after waiting for the inventory to fully load before logging out. When I'm logging back in, some attachments are still missing…

I tried to see if the problem could be reproduced on the Linux version of the client, but I only have Linux running in a VirtualBox VM, and CVLV doesn't seem to work in this environment.

By the way, I forgot to mention something that might have an impact: I don't exactly have a small inventory ;) It's like 15000+ items. Could it be related?

Anyway, I guess I'll have to wait until the next Mac version to see if it still happens… It's not a huge problem by the way, only have to take care of what I'm wearing when I'm logging in, so it's just a matter of a minute or two.

Thank you both for your answers! :)
