Here are three new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.61 (legacy stable branch with v2.6 renderer):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.6.18 (current stable branch with v3.5 renderer):

New in these releases:
  • Now use two different inventory cache files for the production and beta grids, which prevents to see your inventory reload from scratch each time you log with the same avatar in one grid and then in the other for the next session.
  • Allow to stay seated while editing appearance, provided the viewer is configured not to play the appearance editing animation. Also allow to edit appearance (without playing that latter animation, regardless of the viewer configuration), when the RestrainedLove @unsit=n or @standtp=n restrictions are in force.
  • Backported a potential crash bug fix from Firestorm, related with corrupted/bogus rigged meshes advertizing more than 64 joints.
  • Backported from Firestorm a plug to a memory leak in fonts handling.
  • Backported the faster idleUpdate() logic from LL's viewer v3.5.
  • Fixed a bug in the curl handles number counting, do not allow any more to set the maximum number of handles to less than 64, and made it so that the avatar name cache never consumes more than 1/16th of the maximum number of curl handles (was previously capped at a fixed 32 handles number, which could cause starvation when the maximum number of handles was set at 64 or less).
  • Removed the "Fetch baked textures via HTTP" feature, since it will soon stop working altogether in SL (HTTP baked texture fetches will be reserved to server-side-baked textures) and never worked in OpenSim.
  • Some code cleanup and speed optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.7.18 (experimental branch with mesh deformer and server-side baking support):

Same changes as in v1.26.6.18, plus:
  • Backported the latest fixes to the server-side baking code from LL's viewer-sunshine branch.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are three new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

This week sees the promotion of the v1.26.7 branch to the stable status, causing its renumbering into v1.26.8 as well as the deprecation of the v1.26.6 branch, like announced in the roadmap.
The v1.26.4 branch also gets support for server-side baking implemented, and a new v1.26.9 experimental branch is created, that got the mesh deformer and also the new materials renderer.

When upgrading from one branch to the next, don't forget to copy your settings file in the user_settings directory (for example, copying settings_coolvlviewer_1267.xml to settings_coolvlviewer_1268.xml) to avoid having to redo all the configuration.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.64 (legacy stable branch with v2.6 renderer and server-side baking support):

New in these releases:
  • Server-side backing support implemented (same features as in v1.26.8.0).
  • Various minor fixes backported from LL's viewer-development.
  • One more curl handles number counting bug fixed, and pointless IPv6 DNS lookups disabled.
  • Some more gcc v4.7 compilation warnings fixes.
  • LLRegionPresenceVerifier brought on par with LL's latest viewers.
  • Changed the VFS free space management to free more space at once when the VFS gets full.
  • Worked around an OpenSim bug that caused the failure to display the proper voice availability in the status bar. See this thread for details.
  • Added ItalianGrid to the default OpenSim grids list.
  • Various minor fixes and optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.0 (current stable branch with v3.5 renderer and server-side baking support):

This is the promotion of the v1.26.7 branch to the stable status, with the same changes as in v1.26.4.64, plus:
  • Backport from LL's viewer-development of the latest (minor) fixes to LLImageGL and to the shaders.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9.0 (experimental branch with server-side baking, mesh deformer and materials rendering support):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.0, plus:
  • Implemented the very latest viewer-materials renderer. To see materials, don't forget to enable deferred rendering. See this thread for details.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are three new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

These are emergency bugfix releases although the emergency is mainly geared towards Windows builds users: the Windows builds of v1.26.4.64, 1.26.8.0 and v1.26.9.0 have been impacted by a bad bug that could make them crash any time during a session and always on logout. Users of these releases should update. v1.26.9.0 also could cause texture corruption in edited primitives: v1.26.9.1 should be safer (even though you should really never use the experimental branch of any viewer to edit valuable assets !).

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.65 (legacy stable branch with v2.6 renderer and server-side baking support):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.1 (current stable branch with v3.5 renderer and server-side baking support):

New in these releases:
  • Fixed a bug that could cause random crashes and a systematic crash on logout under Windows (Linux builds didn't seem to be impacted due to different compiler optimizations). See this thread for details.
  • Fixed potential crash bugs in octree nodes code.
  • Greatly improved particles rendering prioritization, so that "spammy" particles systems do not starve low count/low frequency particle systems by exhausting the maximum particles allocation. Fixed attachments particles often not showing, or only randomly.
  • Backported from Singularity a hack to help working around the race condition that sometimes causes prims to fail rezzing after a TP (added to my own work-around (reset vertex buffer after TP) that was implemented a while ago, it seems to be working great).
  • Various minor fixes and optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9.1 (experimental branch with server-side baking, mesh deformer and materials rendering support):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.1, plus:
  • Do not allow to transmit the materials data of an edited prim back to the server: this should prevent the texture corruptions seen with materials viewers (LL's and Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9.0) till a proper fix is found.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are three new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.2 (current stable branch with v3.5 renderer and server-side baking support):

New in this release:
  • Made it so that the Current Outfit folder is not updated in OpenSim by default (you can force updates by setting the OSUseCOF debug variable to TRUE). See this thread for details. Also allowed to delete the COF in OpenSim when it is not in use.
  • Added support for the new CONTENT_TYPE_* LSL constants implemented in SL's latest RC servers.
  • Backported various minor fixes and code cleanups from viewer-development v3.5.
  • One minor speed optimization backported from Singularity.
  • Various minor fixes and optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.66 (legacy stable branch with v2.6 renderer and server-side baking support):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.2, plus:
  • Removed the conditional pre-compiler directives for Shared Media, SSB and new HTTP engine support (i.e. they can't be disabled any more at compilation time).

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9.2 (experimental branch with server-side baking, mesh deformer and materials support):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.2, plus:
  • Backported the latest rendering fixes from viewer-development-materials.
  • Implemented materials editing in the Build floater (Texture tab): BEWARE !!! This is highly experimental code: DO NOT EDIT VALUABLE ASSETS WITH THIS VIEWER BRANCH AS THEY COULD BE CORRUPTED !

Enjoy ! :D

Here are three new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.3 (current stable branch with v3.5 renderer and server-side baking support):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.67 (legacy stable branch with v2.6 renderer and server-side baking support):

New in these releases:
  • Backported from Firestorm a fix to a bug that could cause crashes in the texture fetcher.
  • Changed the "Default Upload Permissions" floater into a "Default Permissions" one (accessible from the "File" menu) which affects all new objects and assets uploads and creations. See this thread for details.
  • The "RegisterChangedCaps" setting is now TRUE by default which allows changed capabilities to be taken into account: such changes should not happen, but they do for neighbouring sims (server bug, probably) and not taking them into account can cause a lot HTTP request failures (with fast Curl handles starvation waiting for timeouts from bogus capability URLs).
  • Various speed optimizations, a couple of them inspired from Singularity's and Firestorm's and further refined. Also added forced-inlining of some time-critical functions.
  • Removal of some dead/unused code.
  • Various minor fixes, including the usual lot of viewer-development fixes backports.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9.3 (experimental branch with server-side baking, mesh deformer and materials support):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.3, plus:
  • Backported the latest rendering fixes from viewer-development-materials.
  • Backported some fixes to the materials editing... still insufficient: editing of prims with material is still badly borked !

Note: v1.26.6.20 has been retired.

Enjoy ! :D

Here are three new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.4 (current stable branch with v3.5 renderer and server-side baking support):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.68 (legacy stable branch with v2.6 renderer and server-side baking support):

New in these releases:
  • Fixed a crash bug that was occurring after replying to the confirmation dialog when replacing a wearable asset that was being edited and that didn't get saved.
  • Fixed the TOS floater issue that was preventing you to scroll through the TOS and read it fully. See this thread for details.
  • Made it so that, when logging in, your outfit is restored exactly to what it was when closing the last Cool VL Viewer session (i.e. the viewer doesn't trust any more what the server tells what your avatar should be wearing, which is bound to differ from the saved outfit in outfit.xml when you logged in with a different viewer and changed your outfit with the latter). This will solve the "mixed outfit" issue for people using several different viewers.
  • Exposed the "SyncAttachmentsInCOF" setting in the Preferences floater ("Cool features" tab, "Miscellaneous" sub-tab, "Create links for attachments in COF" check-box), again, for people using other viewers that need a fully populated COF to restore the outfit on login.
  • Added a watchdog timeout for the initial outfit server message (this message is flagged as deprecated, and while the current SSB regions on Aditi still emit it, LL could decide to get rid of it after the SSB roll out, which would cause viewers expecting that message to wait for it forever and be unable to bake your avatar !).
  • Added the "Use Root For Pivot" edit option. See this thread for details.
  • Changed the log file name from "SecondLife.log" to "CoolVLViewer.log".
  • The boost libraries have been updated to LL's latest builds (v1.52). I however recompiled the Linux ones myself to get rid of the pointless ICU dependency that uselessly bloats LL's own Linux viewer release by 20Mb !...
  • Got rid of pointless recourse to the LLSingleton class and its costly (in precious CPU cycles) getInstance() method to retrieve a simple pointer to permanent and widely used classes (select manager, viewer camera, mute list, appearance manager, voice client, wearables and local textures dictionaries, world, etc...). The LLSingleton class has also been inlined, for the places where it is still in use. The benefit may seem negligible on a fast CPU (about 25µs per frame on a 4.65GHz Core-i5 in lightweight 3D environments, more when more avatars and objects are around), but it's the accumulation of such minor optimizations that makes the Cool VL Viewer so much faster on lower end hardware...
  • Updated the grid parameters for New World Grid.
  • A few more minor changes, fixes and optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9.4 (experimental branch with server-side baking, mesh deformer and materials support):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.4, plus:
  • Backported the latest rendering fixes from viewer-development-materials.
  • Backported some fixes to the materials editing... still insufficient: editing of prims with material is still badly borked !... I'm starting to wonder if there's a server-side aspect to this bug...

Enjoy ! :D

Here are three new releases of the Cool VL Viewer, available now from http://sldev.free.fr/:

Not much work done, this week, but some important bug fixes went in these releases. Updating to them is recommended (especially for users of last weeks' releases).

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.8.5 (current stable branch with v3.5 renderer and server-side baking support):
Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4.69 (legacy stable branch with v2.6 renderer and server-side baking support):

New in these releases:
  • Fixed an infinite loop bug that was affecting the last releases (v1.26.4.68, v1.26.8.4 and v1.26.9.4) when inventory had to reload on login. See this thread for details.
  • Fixed crash bugs that were occurring on new image data allocation failures (when memory is too low).
  • Fixed the avatar name tags "jitter" bug that was introduced in the last releases. See this thread for details.
  • Backported (from Firestorm) Nicky's fix to a crash bug that could occur on failure to decode fetched textures.
  • Backported from LL's viewer-beta a partial fix to non-rezzing prims after teleport (this replaces Shyotl's work-around I backported from Singularity three weeks ago).
  • Added syntax highlighting and tool-tips for the new JSON LSL functions and constants.
  • Backported from LL's viewer-beta the support code for the new (upcoming) PERMISSION_EXPERIENCE and PERMISSION_RETURN_OBJECTS LSL permissions.
  • Added two debug settings ("TextureMinVirtualSizeDiscard" and "TextureLazyFlushTimeout") for formerly hard-coded constants controlling how fast textures are discarded when not in FOV and how fast they are removed from memory when no more in use, and adjusted these constants default values for faster memory releases. Also increased the "MainMemorySafetyMargin" setting by 10Mb to make for the increase of size of the viewer executable and libraries that occurred over releases.
  • Various minor fixes and optimizations.

Cool VL Viewer v1.26.9.5 (experimental branch with server-side baking, mesh deformer and materials support):

Same changes as in v1.26.8.5, plus:
  • Backported the latest rendering fixes from viewer-development-materials (but full-bright and semi-transparent objects are still not rendering properly; see: MATBUG-112).
  • Backported more fixes to the materials editing... Editing of prim faces with material seems to be working properly now, however please still be careful and avoid editing precious assets with this viewer branch.

Enjoy ! :D
