...when they are beyond: " doesn't function as expected for me.

Hey there,

at least on Windows this settin is not really working for me, as my avatar always turns to the objects, don't matter how far I am away. I have the setting to 0m because I never want that to happen but it also seems to not work if I choose 5m e.g.

The other related setting ("Do not look at objects the mouse pointer hovers on when beyond:") might also be affected, but I cannot say it as I never really tested it..

Thanks again for this wonderful viewer, Henry!!

Thread moved where it belongs, in the FAQ forum...

The setting you are mentioning is only affecting the information sent by the viewer to the server (so that people cannot see what you are looking at or touching beyond a configured distance of your choice). It is working perfectly fine (no bug here).

To prevent your avatar from turning around when you select an object, open the "Preferences" floater, "Cool features" tab, "Animations" sub-tab and un-check the "When selecting an object, turn the avatar around to face it" box (which is checked by default since this is how the viewers normally work).

I would kindly suggest that you look more closely to all the configuration options available to you (and also read the lengthy, explanatory tool tips for them) before posting (non-)bug reports about a "missing" or "non functional" feature...

Oh, I didn't want to make you feel bothered... I'm really sorry for the inconveniences.

I did read the tool-tips (and not only once) - the one in this regards says: "When this setting is enabled, touching or editing an object that is beyond the configured distance does not make your avatar 'pointing' at it (...), thus not broadcasting this info to surrounding avatars' viewers."
I understood it, in particular the first part, that the avatar is not doing it at all - and in addition to that it is not broadcasting this to other avatars' viewers, too. That is why I didn't look further for that specific task and I totally oversaw that relevant Cool Feature.

May I suggest to change the tooltip (and the related one "Do not look at objects..", too) to make it more clear to the users that this setting is only for other avatars' viewers and will not change the behaviour on the users own viewer? E.g. starting the tool tip like that: "This setting is only effecting other avatars' viewers and does not change the behaviour of your own avatar on your own viewer! If you want to de-activate turning the avatar around to face selected objects please use the Cool features/Animations setting for it."

Thanks again for your fast reply and help!

The tool tip is perfectly clear: yes, the setting does prevent your avatar from pointing at the objects (the avatar arm is not made to point at them) and thus not broadcasting any "point at" info to the server. It however does not affect the avatar rotation animation, which is an entirely different part in the code, and what the other setting is dealing with.

Again, reading the tool tips for all settings would have allowed you to find the answer.
