Videos do not appear until touching a prim - 1.26.6.18

Hi Henri,

I found a bug in the 1.26.6.18 viewer...

When attempting to view a video that uses legacy parcel media (not media on a prim), the viewer does not start displaying the visual portion of the video until the prim containing the parcel media texture is edited.

Way to reproduce:
1) Go to a parcel that has a valid video URL set to play as a MP4 assigned to the parcel. There will also need to be a prim in the area with a media texture that matches the one set up in in the About Land > Media tab.
2) Press play on the media icon in the lower right corner (camera with play/stop controls)
3) You will hear the video but not see it being played. You will only see the media texture
4) Right click and edit the prim with the media texture on it.
5) The video will now appear on the prim instead of the media texture.

This issue is not present in the 1.26.4 branch.

I'm hoping it's an easy fix...I'd love to start using the 1.26.6 viewer!

Thank you for all of your hard work.

Below is my system info:

Cannot reproduce. The mp4 (http://www.magiclandpark.com/movies/Fantasmic.mp4) is playing just fine, here, as either parcel media or shared media, with all Cool VL Viewer versions (v1.26.4, v1.26.6 and v1.26.7).

There is however something wrong with the provided log: it's a log for the Cool VL Viewer v1.26.4 while you report a problem for v1.26.6... Did you mess up your installation ?... Each version (1.26.4 and 1.26.6) *must* be installed in different directories !

Hi Henri,

I uninstalled both 1.26.4.61 and 1.26.6.18 and then re-installed 1.26.6.18 by itself. Cleared the cache and still experienced the same issue. It seems like the visual portion of the video just isn't updating to the viewer. Audio is present but for some reason or other, the visual does not appear when a video is started that uses the legacy parcel media. Editing the prim seems to make the video visuals appear.

Other than the video issue, the speed to download textures and framerate is un-matched by any other viewer

Attached is an updated log file and screenshots.

Still cannot reproduce, but a couple of lines in your log shows that something is very wrong on your system:
Code:
2013-04-10T04:39:22Z WARNING: LLWinDebug::checkExceptionHandler: Our exception handler (00CE4E30) replaced with 4F6E6ADA!
2013-04-10T04:39:22Z WARNING: LLAppViewer::mainLoop:  Someone took over my signal/exception handler (post messagehandling) !
This means the viewer exception handler has been replaced by some other software's: this could be a virus, or a particularly invasive anti-virus, which also could explain why you get failures playing media.

Uhm... Are you really running XP or are you using a later version and just have the viewer running in compatibility mode? In the latter case you may want to try turning that off. I don't know if that will change anything, but it's worth a try.

Indeed !... The compatibility mode is not needed at all for the Cool VL Viewer !

I am running Windows XP with SP3 (5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600) with all of the latest patches and updates. Not sure why it is reporting a different "real ver: 6.0 (Build 2900)". The XP environment is native to the computer (meaning, not being run in a VM environment) Are the builds of the Windows versions being done on a Win7 machine?

This bug does not occur in the 1.26.4.61 version, only the 1.26.6.18 version.

To demonstrate, I have uninstalled the 1.26.6.18 version and re-installed the 1.26.4.61 version.

1.26.4.61 is installed now on my computer. Videos run fine, anti-virus or no anti-virus running.

Attached is the log file from 1.26.4.61. (Second Life Logfile.zip)

As a test, I installed the 1.26.6.18 version on another computer running Windows 7, 64-bit. I got the same result. Audio is present but the visual does not appear until the prim is edited. I have attached the log file from that system as well (Second Life Logfile Win7.zip and Second Life About-Win7.zip)

I can reproduce this now with v1.26.7.18 on Win7-64. (I had to install Quicktime first to test it) But apart from editing the prim it also works to zoom out and back in. Even a simple mouse click (either left or right-click) without doing anything more will show the media. Selecting Advanced/Rendering/Reset Vertex Buffers also makes the video appear.

BTW: When you stop the video the media texture doesn't reappear unless you do the same zoom in/out, etc. as described above.

Ah... This is a different bug then, and not related at all with media playing... The recent server updates made the issue with non-rendering prims after TP worst (all viewers are affected), and while the Cool VL Viewer already got a work around for it (it auto-resets the vertex buffers 10s after each TP), the latter seems less efficient than before (probably because of the new "interest list" algorithm and how prims data is sent to the viewer). Since LL is aware of this issue and is apparently working on it, I'm not going to bother fixing it myself (especially seeing as there is a server-side aspect to it, with, most probably, race conditions shared between the viewer and the server).

For now, just use the manual work around the Cool VL Viewer offers to you, by triggering "Advanced" -> "Rendering" -> "Reset Vertex Buffers".

Well, the prim itself displays. It's just one surface of it that isn't updated correctly. Also, isn't starting media an action local to the viewer? Why would LL's server even be involved with that?

Maybe I just don't know enough about the inner workings of the viewer, but I think the non-rendering-prim issue and the media issue are two different things. For one thing the non-rendering-prim issue happens quite randomly while the media issue was 100% reproducible during my testing.
